State Pension error leads to thousands of carers being uprated and receiving

back-dated payments

The Government has announced it will be repaying thousands of mainly women who looked after children or cared for someone with a disability and received income support but did not receive the full national insurance credits towards their pension.

HMRC and DWP have said they will rectify these historical errors by boosting the current pension of those in this group and paying back-dated payments. The government has said it will try to identify the people in this group and send them letters in the forthcoming months to enquire if they had children or caring responsibilities between 1978 and 2010. For a fuller explanation of the move, please have a look at the MoneySavingExpert article.

Thousands of Young People have £2000 Waiting in the Bank

Almost 430,000 18 to 21 year-olds have an unclaimed Child Trust Fund, of £2,000, and they are being urged by HMRC to claim their money.

Child Trust Funds are long-term, tax-free savings accounts, set up for every child born between September 2002 and January 2011. The government contributed an initial deposit of at least £250. Funds can be withdrawn once the account matures when the child turns 18. To find out more go to: Child Trust Fund

Positive Behaviour Support Workshops

These online workshops are about understanding and supporting your child's behaviour, particularly if their behaviour can be more challenging at times. The charity Skillsforpeople say these webinars help parents to think about strategies and to come  up with a plan that focuses on a good quality of life for your child and your family.

Starts Monday 6th November from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm on Zoom. 3 sessions. Book early, ring 0191 2818737 or email information@skillsforpeople.org.uk
